只會用 call 打電話嗎?關於 call 的各種片語

◎ call for 接應(某人)/需要(某事)
這個片語有很多種意思,第一種如果是 call for someone 的形式,就是「接應某人」的意思。
例如:Someone will call for you when it’s your turn to go on stage.
(當輪到你要上台時,有人會來接應你。)
那麼另一種用法,就是「需要」的意思。像是面試的時候,面試官會告訴你這份工作需要什麼技能。例如:
This kind of work calls for a lot of marketing skills.
(這種工作需要很多行銷技巧。)
◎ call in 召來、叫...進去
上班的時候突然被主管叫進去,就想問問同事發生了什麼事:
Do you know why the manager wants to call me in?
(你知道主管為什麼要叫我進去嗎?)
◎ call out 召集
打遊戲的時候,當然就要趕快召集隊伍來打怪!例如:
We need to call out the troops as soon as possible!
(我們需要召集盡可能多的軍隊!)
◎ call off 取消
好興奮要去聽演唱會,但最怕遇到颱風來攪局:
The concert was called off because of the typhoon.
(演唱會因為颱風被取消了。)
◎ call back 回電
這就是我們很常用到的片語囉!像是講電話就會常常說到:
A:Hello. This is Bruce. Could I speak with Brad, please?
(哈囉。我是 Bruce。請問 Brad 方便講電話嗎?)
B:Sorry. He’s busy right now. Do you want to leave your name and number so he can call you back later?
(不好意思。他現在有點忙。方便留下您的姓名與號碼,請他等會回撥給您嗎?)

這是撥電話的「口語」用法喔!例如,你想找朋友聊聊天,就會問他:
