|
|
Only + by/with/in
+ ... + {
•Only when you are as poor as
a church mouse do you realize how important money is.
•Only when people become
homeless do they realize how sweet home is.
•Only after you admit your
mistakes will your parents forgive you.

cooperation can we get through all the difficulties.
Not only
+ 倒裝句 + but + S (+ also) + V....
說明:Not only置於句首時,Not only後的子句需倒裝,but (also) 後的子句不倒裝。
‧Not only is Jane a good singer but she is (also) a famous
pianist.
‧Not only can Paul speak French but he can (also) speak
Spanish.
‧Not only is water pollution harmful to fish but it (also)
damages people’s health.
(1) Not until + S + V... + aux. + S + V....
(2) By no means + aux. + S + V....

(1)
Not until
‧Not until we run out of water will we
understand how important it is.
‧Not until the plane had landed safely did
the passengers let out a sigh of relief.
(2)
‧By no means should children be
allowed to go to bed late.
(2) So + Adj + beV + S + that....
說明:
(1)
‧Many families live by the river. → By
the river live many families.
‧The old man and his dog sat under the
tree. → Under the tree sat the old man and his dog.
(2)
「S + beV + so + Adj +
‧Adam is so selfish that he has few
friends. → So selfish is Adam that he has few friends.

live without it. → So important is water that we can’t live without it.
