1	夜市在臺灣非常普遍。如果你住在高雄，你可以探訪六合夜市。如果你住在臺中，你或許偶爾會去逢甲夜市。然而，你知道臺灣有多少夜市嗎？其實，大概多到數不清吧！

[1-1] Do you know [how many night markets there are in Taiwan]?

此為間接問句，其主詞和動詞不倒裝。例：

‧Tell me [how much money ________ ­________ on these new clothes.]

告訴我你花了多少錢在這些新衣服上。

[1-2] There are probably too many to count!

too...to...表示「太……以至於無法……」，to後面接原形動詞。例：

‧Karen was ________ tired to ________ out with her boyfriend tonight.

Karen今晚太累了以至於無法和男友出去。

2	在臺灣所有的城市中，臺北可能是有最多夜市的地方。大致上來說，臺北有二十個夜市，而且這些還只是知名的夜市。在它們當中，士林夜市是最受歡迎的。你或許已經知道這個地方，但是你可能對它的歷史沿革不太清楚。和其他許多在臺灣的夜市一樣，士林夜市歷史悠久。它早在一百多年前就存在了。在那個時候，有些人到士林地區賣魚貨和農產品。後來，他們開始在那裡販賣點心和食物，那個地區於是就成為士林夜市。在近幾年來，它因為擁有一些臺灣最美味的食物而出名。

most在此為many的最高級，表示「最多的」，後面的of + N表示「……之中」。

文法一點通

S + be + the Adj-est/most Adj (+ N) + of/in.... 最高級的基本句型為：...the + 最高級 (+ one或單數名詞) + 表示範圍的片語或子句。此外，表示範圍的片語或子句有of/among + 人/物、in +地方、that子句等。例： ‧Vera is the tallest ________ the three girls.　 Vera是三個女生裡面最高的。 ‧I think Paris is the most beautiful city ________ the world. 我認為巴黎是世界上最美麗的城市。 ‧This is the most delicious chocolate cake ________ I have ever had. 這是我曾吃過最好吃的巧克力蛋糕。

[2-2] Like many other night markets in Taiwan, Shilin Night Market has a long history.

like為表示「像……」之意的介系詞。例：

‧________ his father, Louis is very quiet.

和他爸爸一樣，Louis非常安靜。

[2-3] Shilin Night Market has become famous for having some of the most delicious food in Taiwan.

be/become famous for + N/V-ing 表示 「因……而聞名」。例：

‧The bakery is ________ ________ its cupcakes.

這家麵包店因杯子蛋糕而聞名。

3	食物通常是這麼多人持續造訪臺灣夜市的主因。舉例來說，棺材板和蝦捲是臺南小北夜市受歡迎的小吃。大餅包小餅則是士林夜市著名的特色小吃。其他小吃像是臭豆腐、蚵仔煎和珍珠奶茶則在臺灣大多數的夜市都可買得到。所以，當你在逛臺灣的夜市時，便可以嚐得到各式各樣的食物。

[3-1] Food is usually the main reason [that so many people continue to go...].

(1) that引導的形容詞子句，修飾表原因的先行詞the main reason。此外，這裡的that可以用why代換。例：

‧Jack told me the reason ________ Laura was angry with me.

Jack告訴我Laura生我氣的原因。

(2) continue + to V/V-ing 表示「繼續……」。 此外，keep也有「繼續」的意思，但後面只能接V-ing。例：

‧Jamie continued ________ ________ dinner after she finished talking with her children.

Jamie在和她的孩子講完話後繼續煮飯。

‧Oliver kept ________ until midnight.

Oliver持續工作直到半夜。

be known as表示「以……(身分) 著稱」。例：

‧Taiwan used to be known ________ Formosa.

台灣過去曾以福爾摩沙著稱。

4	然而，如果你偏好在吃東西時坐著，你必須要有等待的心理準備。這是因為在臺灣的夜市裡，坐位並非總是容易找到。如果你夠幸運能找到一個位子，你可能很快會注意到有人正站在你的身後，等著取代你的位子。

[4-1] If you prefer to sit down when you eat, you must [prepare yourself for a wait].

(1) prefer to V/V-ing表示「比較喜歡做……」。此外，注意prefer這個及物動詞通常不用進行式。例：
‧Nancy prefers ________ ________ in the library.

Nancy比較喜歡在圖書館裡唸書。

(2) prepare oneself for sth表示「某人得做好……的心理準備」。例：

‧________ yourself ________ a shock before I tell you the truth.

在我告訴你事實之前，請做好遭受打擊的心理準備。

[4-2] If you are lucky enough to find a seat, you may soon notice that someone is standing behind you and waiting to take your place.
enough在此為副詞，置於形容詞之後，表示「夠……」；enough + to V 表示「夠……而能……」。例：

我餓到能夠吃掉一整個披薩。

5	入夜時可以在臺灣的夜市找到美味的食物。當攤位的燈亮起時，夜市通常會變得更色彩繽紛。所以，如果你有時間，一定要去享受這裡的夜間美食！

因主詞delicious food為接受動作者，故這裡須用被動語態 “(Aux +) be + Vpp” 表示。例：

[5-2] Be sure to enjoy the great food at night!

be sure to + V在此為「務必，一定要」之意。例：

‧________ ________ ________ lock the door before you leave the office.

在你離開辦公室之前務必要鎖門。
