GRAMMAR IN USE

此句型為副詞子句簡化而成的現在分詞構句,屬主動用法。簡化方式是先將連接詞及副詞子句的主詞省略,再將其主動動詞改為現在分詞 (Ving)。分詞構句常搭配的連接詞有兩類:表示「時間」(when、while、after、as soon as)
及「原因」(because、since) 的連接詞。
Examples:

此句型為副詞子句簡化而成的過去分詞構句,屬被動用法。當連接詞放句首且兩個子句主詞相同時,若副詞子句的動詞為被動語態 (be + Vpp),則可將連接詞及副詞子句的主詞和be動詞省略,直接以Vpp作句首。
Examples:
1. After Sue was given a piece of cake, she sat down to enjoy it.
→ Given a piece of cake, Sue sat down to enjoy it.
