Section 2---Unit 38 Food and Health
The
Many Uses of Lemons
Lemons
are often used to make lemonade in the summer, but there is much more to these
little yellow fruits. They have amazing healing power, and they can also be
used to replace some personal care products. Check out these facts, and you'll
want to go lemon shopping right away.
Lemon
juice can reduce asthma symptoms and help fight throat infections. You can also
apply lemon juice directly to minor cuts to help kill germs and stop bleeding.
Drinking a glass of lemon water a day does wonders for your health, as it helps
rid your body of toxins.
Lemons
also beat out expensive beauty
products. You can use lemon juice as a natural facial wash to fight off acne
and brighten up your skin. To make dandruff go away, you can rub lemon juice on
your head before washing your hair with lemon water. Lastly, if you want great-looking
nails, you can try putting them in warm lemon water and rubbing them with a
lemon peel.
Besides
making you look and feel better, lemons are also extremely useful in the
kitchen. A natural sanitizer, lemon juice may help wash away any chemicals on
your fruits and vegetables.
Even
your clothes can benefit from lemons. Add a cup of lemon juice into the washer
during the wash cycle. Your clothes will turn out and fragrant. Lemon juice
even works for mildew. Mix it with salt rub the mixture on the affected area.
Then, let the clothes dry in the sun. Repeat the process and watch the mildew
disappear.
The
uses of this amazing fruit go on and on, and every part of a lemon---juice,
seeds, peel---is useful. When life gives you lemons, make more than lemonade!
